Routing Protocol Performance Issues and Evaluation Considerations in MANET Abstract: Mobile nodes in Wire less a d-hoc networ k need to operate as routers in or d er to maintain the informa tion ab out network connectivity as there is no centralized infrastructure. Therefore, Routing Protocols are required which could adapt dynamically to the changing topologies and works at low data rates. As are sult, there arises a need for the compreh ensive performance evaluation of the ad-doc routing protocols in same frame work to under stand their comparative merits and suitability for deployment in different scenarios.
In this paper the protocols suite selected for comparison are AODV, DSR, TORA and OLSR ad- hoc routing protocols, as these were the most promising from all other protocols. The performance of these protocols is evaluated through exhaustive simulations using the OPNET Model network simulator under different parameters like routing over head, delay, throughput and network load under varying the mobile nodes. A review of recent developments in national spatial data infrastructures (NSDI) Abstract: Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) is the geographic data framework implementation of data, metadata, users and tools in terms of data infrastructure that are connected in interactive way to allow the flexibly and efficient use of the data. The SDI has different components which work together to make the whole system function properly.
The components of the SDI have been defined by Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC): Framework, Metadata, Standard, Partnership and Geo-data. People were added to SDI because of their importance as the decision makers, and they make final decisions together with the people defined in the partnership component. In this article, basic definitions were explored for different components in terms of rules, organizations and needs; which can be quite useful for countries that are still in the early stage of creating a National Spatial Infrastructure design. The analysis shows that because of the retailer and suppliers' fairness preference, their optimal order quantities tend to became conservative, and the result shows that the greater the retailer's fairness preference, the smaller the optimal order quantity of the retailer and the supply chain system, and the change tendency of the supply chan is more obvious than that of retailer. The greater the supplier's fairness preference, the greater the optimal order quantity of the retailer and the supply chain system, and the change tendency of the supply chan is more obvious than that of retailer. Furthermore, we draw a conclusion that the wholesale price contract don't change the supply chain coordination. Finally, we make the sensitivity analysis of the wholesale price, the retail price, the manufacturing cost of supplier, the stortage cost of retailer and the stortage cost of supplier. Performance comparison of AOMDV and POR Routing Protocols in MANETS Abstract: Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) [1] is Mobile nodes that are communicated with each and every other hop using multi-hop wireless nodes. Each node acts as a router in network and no fixed infrastructure for mobile nodes and there is no base station of it, forwarding data packets for other nodes [2]. Without network infrastructure is known as ad hoc network is formed by mobile stations inside a restricted area which communicates without the need of access point [3]. An ad hoc network can be formed by mobile computers with wireless interfaces that are communicate among themselves without any help of infrastructure. In an ad hoc network the mobile nodes are access to serve both routers and hosts. Performance comparison of AOMDV and POR with ns-2 (version 2.34) simulations shows that throughput as POR packet delivery is better than that of AOMDV. The static pressure, total pressure, velocity and turbulence intensity were accounted. The improvement is observed for both, clockwise and anti-clockwise swirl, the improvement being higher for clockwise swirl.

This study investigated the use of breadfruit stem ash (BFSA) as a partial replacement of cement in sandcrete block making. The breadfruit stem ash was burnt using a local burner and analysis was carried out on the chemical and physical properties of the ash. Four blocks each (150x150x150 mm) were cast at 0%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 40% and 50% replacement levels. The cubes were crushed at 7, 28, and 48 days of curing. The results show that the compressive strength varied from 1.5N/mm2 to 6.5N/mm2 for the replacement levels at 48 days of curing. The 50% to 20% replacement levels displayed very low compressive strengths which were between the ranges of 1.5N/mm2 and 2.1N/mm2.

Abstract: In this paper, investigations are made on performance analysis of the semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) using four wave mixing (FWM) based wavelength converter. This analysis is done at 10Gb/s in terms of shifted wavelength conversion efficiency, quality factor (Q-parameter) and bit error rate (BER) for up and down conversions.
The investigations are carried out by varying the probe signal wavelength and bias current of SOA. From the numerical simulations it has been observed that down-conversion efficiency is more than Up-conversion efficiency and it starts decreases at larger wavelengths. It is found that maximum FWM conversion efficiency is around 27.3417 dB at current 160 mA and 28.5669 dB at current 160 mA for up and down conversion respectively for 10Gb/s. Performance analysis of bi-directional broadband passive optical network using travelling wave semiconductor optical amplifier Abstract: In this paper performance analysis of a bi-directional broadband passive optical network (BPON) for both downstream and upstream traffic by using travelling wave semiconductor optical amplifier (TSOA) is carried out in terms of bit error rate (BER). The system has been analyzed on the basis of drive current of TSOA, data rate, fiber length, coding technique, number of users. From the simulation it has been observed that as we increases the no. Of users, fiber length, data rate bit error rate is increasing due to optical pulse brodening and dispersion. It is found that value of bit error rate 3.65089x10-035 is more acceptable for drive current 0.27A at 20 km. From the investigations it has been found that system performance is better for NRZ modulation format than RZ format because NRZ coding is more tolerable to optical dispersion than RZ coding.

Improving the implementation of new approach data privacy preserving in data mining using slicing Abstract: Several anonymization techniques, such as generalization and bucketization, have been designed for privacy preserving microdata publishing. Recent work has shown that generalization loses considerable amount of information, especially for high dimensional data. Bucketization, on the other hand, does not prevent membership disclosure and does not apply for data that do not have a clear separation between quasi-identifying attributes and sensitive attributes. In this paper, we present a novel technique called slicing, which partitions the data both horizontally and vertically. We show that slicing preserves better data utility than generalization and can be used for membership disclosure protection.
Another important advantage of slicing is that it can handle high-dimensional data. We show how slicing can be used for attribute disclosure protection and develop an efficient algorithm for computing the sliced data that obey the ℓ-diversity requirement. Our workload experiments confirm that slicing preserves better utility than generalization and is more effective than bucketization in workloads involving the sensitive attribute. Placement of FACTS Devices in a Series Compensated Long Transmission Line Abstract: Static VAR Compensator (SVC)and Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) are important devices in FACTS family, and is widely recognized as an effective and economical means to solve the power system stability problem. SVC and STATCOM are used as shunt in transmission system. In the present work a series compensated Distributed transmission line (345KV, 450km, 50Hz) with a shunt FACTS devices SVC and STATCOM is considered to the optimal location of the shunt FACTS devices to get the highest possible benefits of maximum power transfer and system stability.
Effect of change in degree of series compensation on the optimal location of the shunt FACTS device to get the highest possible benefit is studied. It is found that the optimal location of the shunt FACTS device varies with the change in the level of series compensation to get the maximum benefit in terms of power transfer capability and stability of the system. All the simulations for the above work have been carried out using MATLAB /SIMULINK software. Two design styles are studied to account for the emerging needs of technology scaling as designs migrate from 90 to 65 nm PD/SOI technology nodes. Namely we focus on a 90 nm PD/SOI sense Amp based and 65 nm PD/SOI domino read based designs. In this paper we proposed a Malicious Behavior Detection Algorithm that allows identification of misbehaving wireless stations and give out punishment by not sending an Acknowledgment (ACK) packet by the malicious stations and analyze the performance of IEEE 802.11e. This algorithm is designed for an IEEE 802.11e network and is based on detecting a QOS change where a station is moved to a level which is not justified based on the parameters such as TXOPLimit, AIFS and Backoff time. Our strategy is to provide fair resource sharing between the stations which are operating from the same access point and to provide QOS by provisioning the priority to different classes of traffic and make sure that always higher prioritized traffic gets preferential access to channel than lower prioritized traffic.

RF Filter Design Using Insertion Loss Method And Genetic Optimization Algorithm Abstract: A filter design using insertion loss method (ILM) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) is presented in this paper. Many techniques have been proposed for the design and analysis of filter circuit, but the insertion loss method is generally preferred for the flexibility and accuracy that it provides. The ILM is based on network synthesis techniques and can be used to design filter having a specific type of frequency response. However, this procedure is not practical for a large number of elements. GA algorithm can be a useful procedure for calculating values in filters with a large number of elements. This paper presents the procedure which takes an advantage of ILM for filter design and GA for determination of an unknown value in filters with large number of elements. This is suitable approach for filter design with an arbitrary shape of cutoff frequency and pass band.

Reduction Of Common Mode Voltage In Ac Drives Using Multilevel Inverter Abstract: In this paper, an approach to reduce common-mode voltage (CMV) at the output of multilevel inverters using a phase opposition disposed (POD) sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) technique is proposed. The SPWM technique does not require computations therefore, this technique is easy to implement online in digital controllers.
A good tradeoff between the quality of the output voltage and the magnitude of the CMV is achieved in this paper. This paper realizes the implementation of a PODSPWM technique to reduce CMV using a fivelevel diode clamped inverter for a three phase induction motor. Experimental and simulation results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed technique. I always enjoy marine related watches might be because I am attracted to the sea since a long long time. I am not into pilot/racing watches but always regretted that there was not some sort of Nautical replacement for like the Tachymeter. A way to get to Longitude would be a great alternative. I really like nautical themes in wristwatches. The way Omega tries to resemble the teak deck of a ship with their Aqua Terra models is simply stunning. The most amazing application of a nautical theme I have ever seen is that in the Ulysse Nardin Grand Marine Deck Tourbillion. The way that they incorporated the ropes of a ship in a watch is amazing.
I would really like it if a watch brand would make an watch themed around a sextant. Maybe put a lens in the side of the watch where you can see the escape wheel doing its job or something. That would be really cool.
It might be a tad cheesy, but a law/pirate side Pirates of the Caribbean-inspired family of watches. The pirate side could feature dark reds and blacks in its colour options, all in yellow gold cases of course. The law side on the other hand, would be primarily whites and blues and encased in rose gold or steel.
Any maritime-inspired watch has to have a telemeter scale. This should be accompanied by a mono-pusher one-minute chronograph. How else will you know how far away the pirate ship is that has just fired its cannons at you? Or His Majesty’s frigate (if your watch is cased in yellow gold). I know exactly what ”nautical’ watch I would loved to see, and the watch company I want to make it!
I want the watch to be based on a nautical event that triggered the largest blow-up to occur until the dropping of the atomic bomb. That’s right, I’m talking about The Halifax Explosion. During the first world war, a French Ship filled to brim with weapons collided with another vessel in the harbour outside Halifax. The explosion killed two thousand, injured nine thousand more and flattened every building within 1.5 miles. The ship carrying the explosives? That’s right, it was the SS Mont-Blanc!
There’s a great entry on the incident on Wikipedia. Part of the anchor of the SS Mont-Blanc was found two miles away. So here’s the watch I would like to see: I would love it if MontBlanc would make a watch commemorating the Halifax explosion.
As a complication, the watch would make a ‘kaboom’ to sound on the anniversary of the event on 9:04:35 am, 6 December 1917. There are so many nautical and boat-related themes. My oldest memory was the poem: “Old Ironsides” a poem written by American writer Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. Beyond and because of the poem, the frigate USS Constitution was saved from being decommissioned and is now the oldest commissioned ship in the world still afloat.
On long trips on land or sea the days can pass by, blur and need counting so the obvious complications are date and month. Day of the week would be handy as would GMT for navigation. I would love to hear of famous ships that dropped anchor in bay of Port Phillip, Melbourne harbor.
The event I would like to see recognized would be based on the secret mission and infamous sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis in 1945. After dropping off the supplies for the first atomic bomb it was torpedoed and sank into shark infested waters. Many were terrorized and consumed by said sharks over the next few days. Besides a build in flotation device and a harpoon gun you would also need your trusty horological instrument. Of course it would have to be waterproof to at least 200M with a screw-down crown.
Some type of poly strap with a secure clasp. Large easy to read dial with 24-hr and day-date. Something along those lines sound like a good start.
I would love to see a watch with a Somalian pirate theme. Perhaps the face of the watch could be pale blue with a white star similar to the Somalian flag? Also – a cool feature would be a treasure map on the back of the watch – and the location of the treasure would be at my house – therefore if i got accosted by pirates out on the high seas and they robbed my watch, i could go home and wait for them to show up looking for the booty. Then when they got there i would swoop in super quick and grab it back (which would be easy as we all know Somalian Pirates have reduced vision and slowed reactions on dry land)... Also it would float..
Somalian Pirates are notoriously butter fingered.... I think a watch with some links to mythical sea creatures could be quite cool, something like the Kraken.
Or something to do with pirates and pieces of ait maybe. I know the Bell and Ross Bronze Skull follows along those lines, but there isn’t anything else like that. I would say bronze or worn down metal cases, maybe for the Kraken idea a more simplistic dial with a see through case back incorporating the kraken into the rotor of part of the case back, keeping it hidden in the depths so only those who know about the watch know the truth. In terms of the pirate theme, certain something swords, skull and cross bones on the dial but subtle maybe like specifically designed hands. Coming from a family of marine officers honestly there are TONS of nautical or marine themed watches out there but almost none of them (save Ulysse Nardin) focuses on the GMT complication. Whilst most marine themes are focused more on yachting and boating, there are lots of officers out there sailing around the world and there’s only three things on their mind. 1) Loved ones back home (what time is it at home, what are they up to etc) 2) How many days/weeks or months till he signs off duty 3) Well.
So a marine officer themed (with all the marine style cues like hands and hour markers) with a GMT and possible annual calendar complication that is able to dial up the sex appeal would be. Completely spot on. Nearly every nautical-themed watch I’ve seen has at least one component that is blue in color.
While that is appropriate, I think it’s overdone. There are plenty of color schemes other than blue that I would associate with the ocean. As far as features and complications go, I think any nautical-themed watch needs some level of waterproofing, or at least some significant water-resistance. Not every nautical-themed watch needs to be a diver’s watch, but I shouldn’t have to worry about getting it wet if I wear it on a boat.
A 24 hour dial would also be an interesting complication for a nautical watch. It’s a good balance between being interesting and busy with the nautical theme flowing through the clarity of the layout and the fonts used. As other’s have said, I’d like a watch with a falling/rising tide indicator (used to rent a flat with one of these on the wall, which was useful as the car park space could flood at high water) but I’d also like one where you wound it up by inserting a handle and cranking as if you were winching the main sail as you tack. Not at all practical I know, but not the least practical idea that I have ever seen on a watch 😉 •. Wow, this is a f*in sick watch!!!!! I would like a fat-ass whale inspired watch, with Moby Dick flying on the face of the dial, squirting sea-juice to tell the time (think HYT) with a minute-repeater that freaking shells out SONAR WAVES and can basically turn deaf a person if they get too close to touch the hands of the watch (mind you the watch hands aren’t are literally hands, i.d.
Arms of a pop-eye like sailor pointing to the breguet style sea-inspired numerals (they are a deep navy blue, with highlights of azure to the backdrop of sanguine-red, which is the spilled blood of the moby-dick like whale on the watch’s face (by the way it’s enamel) – this all is a metaphoric/ or allegorical (whichever) representation for that Manichean system of thought our society is built on, ergo thus finally we build watches to consume in excess because we get off on the idea of veblen goods (i.e. Wales on enemal on watches with minute repeaters) I hope I win. This is an excellent looking dress piece with textured dial and a touch of sport with subdials reminiscent of a chronograph, but not.
As a 9000 series Miyota automatic, this movement adds a touch of quality on par with the design. The best nautical theme is a bronze case watch that weathers like old nautical equipment. The more it has features in common with the design of the nautical equipment of yesteryear, the more nautical the theme. A compass, such as that in the Alpina Alipner4 chronograph bezel complication, or even better, a floating compass complication, would be an interesting touch to the bronze watch to give it that extra nautical-themed touch. For theming I would like to see a dress/casual watch with blue/brown (wood) colours. Maybe a blue NATO or a rubber strap to go along with it.
Tops 40mm and the less the height the better. Divers are everywhere and sometimes I just want a nice watch on my wrist that ain’t done as a tool for measuring time. For functions I would like to see a water resistance of at least 200 meters (overkill maybe, but why not), a compass for navigating (with some kind of lume in it). A function that would be awesome to me would be that the watch floated.
I don’t always wear the watch on my wrist when I am fishing and if I happen to drop it in the water I don’t want it to be ‘lost’. I’d love to see a watch inspired by the vintage timber runabouts of the 50’s – the small rose coloured timber, white leather seats you see in the old Bond movies, or cruising around Lake Como.
The watch would need to be a polished stainless steel (around 40mm) with a white dial inspired by the old fuel gauge, with a rosewood timber inlay around the bezel. Sold on a weathered dark blue leather strap.
To keep things classic, a second hand a 6 o’clock & a moving date hand ending in the shape of a small anchor. I initially thought this watch was offered in bronze or brass, but no, it’s gold plated. I’d love to see more bronze- or brass-cased nautical watches, since it would remind me of the navigational equipment used on many an old ship. The 100m water resistance is very welcome here, as one would expect a nautically-themed watch to be able to withstand the elements.
The blue leather strap is not really going to do as well, but it’s a very dignified more formal look, which could easily be altered by a strap change. Out of the million billion kickstarter ‘companies’ that I’ve seen, I liked this the most so far when I saw it a year or two ago on wornNwound. Barring winning this contest, my next miyota driven watch is hopefully going to be the Scurfa Bell Diver 1 Automatic which is promised to be at pricing blowing this out of the water with super lume all over its face, a helium valve, sapphire domed crystal and safe to 500m.
Interview Scurfa all their watches are kickass. As far as the Portsea, you kind of undersold it with this write up, it has a sapphire crystal with AR and that caseback was stamped or forged or something special like that, not simply engraved/lasered. The dial is ceramic which seemed cool too. It all kind of came together a little more thoroughly than the other kickstarters out there, the price for a miyota movement is still a bit outrageous, it was more like $900 Canadian or thereabouts when I looked it up before.
For that price it should be a Sellita beating in there. Looks wise they have another dial that’s way better, blue with white letter/numbering that looked a lot more “out on the water” to me. A theme I think they could really easily incorporate would be kind of a homage to the NASA Star Chart watch face on their blue ceramic dial with the bezels marked for celestial navigation.
If they were being serious about it though, they’d some how mesh old with new and have an electronic compass and gps involved somehow. This is a beautiful watch and I’ve wanted one since I first noticed it almost a year ago. It does a great job capturing a sailing theme.
I think it would be cool to see a nautical watch that is made of bronze. Even if it did tarnish over time, it could add to the rustic nautical theme. It should have a moonphase complication as well as diamonds/gems representing stars. These could be arranged to look like the little dipper and feature the north star, commonly used in navigation. It could also have a world time zone complication inside the bezel. The Melbourne Watch Co’s ‘Portsea’ benefits from classic styling in an eminently wearable size and at a reasonable everyday price point This timepiece’s looks hint at a much higher price. The cost savings of Hong Kong manufacture should not deter buyers: Why spend thousands more unless one just cannot live without a major brand’s logo on one’s wrist?
Hint- going the indie route is a lot cooler anyway. As a boat lover who has owned several boats, classic wooden models amongst them, I’d like to see more nautical references in future sea-worthy themed models: A porthole/s, wooden decking &/or anchor depictions. A compass, or other navigational aide would be a useful complication also. The Portsea is a great looking piece of accessible Aussie-themed horology, so welcome aboard Melbourne watch Co! Some simple ways to incorporate nautical elements into watch design and complications that would be cool: Copper/brass finishing are still in style for some consumers. (1) I can’t help but think of old school telescopes with brass and wood finishes. (2) A date indicator that looks like a ship throttle (3) a power reserve indicator that looks like a compass (4) a lunar phase window that displays a different nautical flag every hour (5) would be cool to incorporate the styling of an astrolabe to measure time, date or some other function.
Portsea is one of the best looking microbrands watches of recent years! Contest Posting: I think a complication to show tide phases would be super helpful to both merchant marines, sailing enthusiasts and fishermen alike. I could see it helping with a quick reference to sectional charts as to the aproximate depth at that time of the day. Or even knowing which general direction the current is moving.
I imagine it being very similar to how moon phases are set up on watch complications already, which you can easily adjust to local times as well as modify to existing movements already in watches themselves. It would be very different in watch designs from what there is now. I think a watch inspired by the 19th century marine chronometers would look great. There are some watches like this on the market, but the one that I would find ideal would be not too large (about 40mm), with a bronze case with classical styling and a white uncluttered dial, just like Portsea, but without day and date. It should instead have a small second and a tide gauge complication, which I think would be quite useful for an old-time sailor. And also about 100 m water resistance – enough to be able to swim with it, should one find oneself flung overboard, but not so much that it would make the case bulky – I’d like to see the marine chronometer style preserved.
The theme should be the old ships used during the 1500-1700. The time og exploration and adventure. Old school materiales, good readability, pomppurse and grand. This would require great and detailed craftmanship. For complications there should be a compass – as in a true freemoving analogue compass.
This is twofold: 1. Based on the theme this would be appropriate and 2. This would be technical impressive and fit within the world of complications as the compass needs to take magnetisme into consideration as well as space in the case. There should also be a perpetual calendar, a moonphase in order to account for the tide, and there should be a star map in some way. I’d like to see the future of the Australian shipbuilding industry used as the basis which would also take inspiration from the classic nautical watches like the submariner.
This would need to involve the fusion of new technology including; carbon fibre faces and extremely accurate movements whilst keeping the classic good looks of a submariner or sea master. The biggest challenge in doing this will be the balance between technology (including digital integration) and presenting a strong, good looking and functional timepiece •. I’d like to see one inspired by working on a sail boat. I’m thinking of a very slim case held tight to the wrist by a milanese band. Silver watch not polished so much that it will be blinding with a light blue face and white hands. The watch should be resistant enough to swim with.
And if I was using it, I’d want it to set itself to the correct time with the push of a button. If it’s mechanical, I’d want the day-of-week by 3 o’clock. All sixty markers with hour positions larger than 5 minute ones which are larger than the rest. That way I can count the seconds. Delightful ease of design themes. The blue strap reminds me of the first watch my wife bought me – the first series Seiko Kinetic which I still have on a new strap with the original clasp, a new glass front and back and a new Kinetic mechanism which lasts much longer and hibernates! Of course, a nautical watch must first and foremost be accurate.
But the key requirement is to be able to clearly read hours, minutes and, crucially.S E C O N D S in the dark with no moon, just before sunrise without having to leave it off the wrist, in the cabin under a lamp for hours beforehand! Deliver that guys and do it better than Ball Watches! I would like to see a regatta theme Richard Mille watch. Isn’t it obvious a complicated regatta watch a perfect fit for their tonneau NTPT case since NTPT is the material used for mast construction in sophisticated racing yachts? Complications like a high frequency chronograph, countdown timer indicating 10 and 5 minutes to the start of the regatta, second time zone function and a mechanical alarm are complications that I think complements such a marvelous Richard Mille.
I remember of an interview with Richard Mille himself that a complication like the minute repeater will not be present in his repertoire of watches since its usefulness in the dark have pretty much been replaced by electric lights but I think a twist on the function of a minute repeater like a Richard Mille regatta watch that can chimes out the final seconds before the start of a regatta an apt and relevant application of a chiming function in a Richard Mille. Obviously, such a watch would need to be water resistant, but a regatta watch with diving depths capabilities that is fitted with the world first internal tonneau shaped dive bezel would truly live up to the words Breakthough and Novelty. I’d like to think that all marine watches have captured the element of sailing or travelling by sea already, but I think there could be a few more original ideas out there.
I’d love to see a Great Lakes Freighter inspired watch: a very thick case, with a red and white color pattern (half&half) to the case, and a sturdy bronze crown and bezel. The dial could continue the color pattern of the case and you’d need a very good crystal to keep it being scratch resistant (or maybe that wouldn’t matter. The watch should be like one of those old ships and have it’s bruises show but not overcome the beauty of what it should be. Form follows function). You wouldn’t need the most complicated movement in the world, just a workhorse. Maybe a Seiko 7S26 movement.
The band would have to be steel. It only makes sense. When thinking of nautican themes accompanied by an austrailian watch, I come up with ideas like sharks and whales. How can one incorporate features in a watch inspired by sharks? I would like to have a dial that is inspired by sharkskin, So actually fish scales, one by one aligned in/at each other made of polished noble metals.
The watch could have gills that make up a sceletonization. The watch could be like a porthole, where you see the underwater creature passing by: the shark skin. The case inspired by an u-boat (like the watches that already exist), beeing a very bulky stainless steel case and completing a sub-nautican journey. I think the nautical theme has been done often and well (including the watch featured in this month’s giveaway).
Something I would like to see that is a little different would be a watch or series of watches inspired by the efforts to preserve historic vessels at places like South Street Seaport and Mystic, Connecticut. Perhaps make the watch cases from steel salvaged from some of the older vessels, with some of the proceeds going to preservation efforts. I think a subscription series from a company like Melbourne Watch Company, featuring a vessel from the USA, Australia, France, England, etc. Could be very successful. Caseback engraving would identify the vessel being honored.

A nautical / boat-themed watch needs to be clean, serviceable, sturdy (not bulky) and a simple elegance–which brings to mind the “Nautor Swan” and Hinckley; the “Courageous” and “Stars & Stripes” and other timeless vessels. A subtle wave pattern on the dial; hands resembling the shape of a sailboat; a larger screw down crown for greater grip to open etched with a compass rose: lugs with a not to cleats and the 3 and 9 either numeric lume or lume markers in red & green signifying port and starboard. In the tradition of USNA’s ring dance each watch, crowns, lugs etc are given a “bath” in a mixture of waters from the Seven Seas (along with a certificate, though at the Academy the seven seas bath was taken on faith).
Cases made from titanium, steel and carbon fiber. A strap made from silicone backed sail cloth and its buckle cast from piece of maritime/historic importance, along with a bracelet of same composition as the case, whose safety clasp is cast from same or similar piece of maritime/ naval significance.
Case back etched with historical description of history behind the buckle and clasp. Complications are the date at the 6 position in a magnified porthole shape; seconds hand and GMT tipped in lume and a ceramic unidirectional bezel numerated for second time zone and manual wind. The aforementioned may also be crafted as a pocket watch.

Smooth Seas & Following Winds! I think that Melbourne Watch Company have made a beautiful and intricate looking watch. I like all aspects of this watch, especially the colour combination of the rose gold case with the white ceramic face, complemented by the blue leather band. I have been admiring this watch for a while, and would love to add it to my small collection. As to incorporating a nautical theme, I would like to see a watch incorporate polished brass to give the look of the ships bell or a binnacle which would house the ships compass.
Polished brass could be incorporated into the watch case, along with the watch hands and the buckle on the wrist strap. I think this would create a unique feature as I have not seen polished brass on a wrist watch before.
New to the site and a beginner watch enthusiast, but I am loving the website, reviews, and videos! Again, as individual that is new to the world is watch complications I always equate nodical theme with sailing and true sailors value their time and location. Adding some complication that provides insight into the constellation would fit well, especially if the watch had a classic wood and brass feel. Or even an additional hand that always points north, acting as a compass without the gimmicky compass look. Perhaps a nautical watch could be inspired by the Aegean sea and especially the Aegean Regatta, an annually held race between the islands of Aegean. It could have a silver case, a white dial and dark blue hands and roman numerals and also a dark blue bracelet, reminiscent of the colours someone can see while sailing this sea and of the islands’ houses architecture. To me, simplicity should be preferred and no other organs added, except maybe a timer since it’s about a race.
However, indications of date and the phases of the moon could be useful. On the back of the case an engraving of a trident (the symbol of the god Poseidon) would be suitable •. I think the best help for sailors at sea will be a watch with a compass. It will be a compact navigation device of high accuracy that allows to plot and to determine its location in the crash. I propose to set a compass in the mechanical watch in the rim around the dial in two ways: 1. For hours in a sports-style moving part of the compass to insert into the outer rim around the dial, with additional watch Bezel for fixing the direction “north”.
For a more classic style of hours, you can insert a small circle with a compass inside the clock on the back panel, or set the compass arrow below the transparent dial. Besides marine watches in sporty style should be waterproof and have an additional face in 24h format.
