Install Tinyxp From Usb Drive

Posted in HomeBy adminOn 28/11/17

A looong time ago i made a post about installing linux on an old laptop for my dad's garage. I installed crunchbang on it and it works fine but theres some problems with it that make it a deal breaker for me like not detecting any PC cards or using flashplayer properly in iceweasel anyway my plan is to just install tinyxp on it and be done with it but im running into problems. The laptop in question is a dell inspiron 5000e, 700mhz cpu w/ 512mb ram. This PC is maxed out. The problem is i cant figure out a way to get the installer to start at a cold boot.

Torrentz will always love you. © 2003-2016 Torrentz. Sep 16, 2010. Ny_driver., 03:28 PM. I don't see how tinyxp installs even with a cd.it contains no setup files. I can't believe there have not been more people that wanted to install it with a flash drive. I've spent the whole day and gotten absolutely nowhere. I install 7 from a flash drive np.

The normal way to do this would be to boot from a dvd or flashdrive and run the installer that way. Well this laptop has a cd-rom only and doesn't have the capability of booting from usb. Soal Toeic Dan Pembahasan Pdf To Jpg. The disc image i downloaded totals around 3.12gb and wont fit on a cd what ive tried: + extracted the image to a flashdrive, make it bootable, and use PLoP boot manager on hirens boot cd to make the computer boot from usb. This doesnt work because PLoP will either freeze or give an error that says something like 'no COMP32R image found'. (cant exactly remember the error). + repartitioning the hdd to a have a 4gb fat32 partition, make it bootable, and copying the extracted image to that partition hoping that the computer will boot from it. It tries to boot from that partition but i get an error that says 'NTLDR missing blah blah'.

+ tried booting a DOS floppy disc, navigating to the installer on the hdd and running it. I get an error that says 'this program cannot be run is DOS mode'. + tried running the installer in a session of miniXP but it seems to start installing a full version of windows XP (not what i want) what i have not tried + using a different flashdrive to install from. I don't have one on hand to try unless i ask around to borrow one from somebody + installing tinyXP on the laptop HDD on a different computer and moving the HDD back to the laptop. As i was researching my problems on the web i read that doing this will not work with NT based systems.

I haven't tried my self though + extracting the disc image to a CD and telling IMGburn to truncate the image when it reaches the end of the CD. The theory here is that the truncated data will not be needed for installing tinyXP but this is a complete guess + creating an autoexec.bat file that tells the laptop to run the setup file at boot up and place it on the root of the fat32 partition. Don't know if this would actually work or not the only other thing i havent tried is using n-lite to create my own image on windows xp.

Sounds like a time consuming job are there any other methods of booting the installer? Do you know how to fix the problem(s) i described? Thanks people for you input • •. CurbsidePharmacist wrote:Burn the CD/DVD then right before the Bios screen goes away use the boot Selector to pick the boot device or enter bios and tell it to boot CD/DVD first You can get to the boot menu by hitting F12 when you see the Dell BIOS splash screen. This laptop is very old so this wont do any good. It doesnt have a dvd drive (cd-rom only) and it cant boot from usb. It boots a cd fine but the disc image is to big to fit on a cd.

Getting high capacity cd's is an option. I dont really feel like buying them just for this purpose and then put them away forever though. If i don't have another choice i might do this • •.

Ok i just figured it out by accident. I took redneck's advice and started looking for another iso for a standalone copy of tinyxp.

I forgot to mention that the image i downloaded was the rev 11 release with 10 different installations of windows (heck yes!). Google turned up a link that says there are batch files on the image that will create a standalone ISO of any windows installation you want. I had no idea about this and is exactly what i need.

You can see here that the batch files are located in the ISO folder on the root of the CD (FAT32 partition in my case). There is also a readme file with instructions.
