Apr 11, 2015. I've bought the cheapest discs possible and my Dreamcast has had no problems related to it since I've gotten it over a year ago. I've head very. Finally got around to getting a battery for the VMU i bought a couple months ago, also downloaded a DCRES rom torrent so i got a handful of games to burn.

File: 1.95 MB, 1700x1000, dreamcast-console.png [] [] [] [] [] Anonymous Tue Jan 14 13: [] [] [] How often do you guys play Dreamcast? It's really easy to get the whole library of games with some patience and CD-Rs. On top of those I've got a good amount of homebrew. Remember the good old days when Ivy's boobs weren't her greatest asset, her butt was? Remember ROCK THAT SHIT, HOMIE? >>Anonymous Tue Jan 14 13: Soul Caliber on the DC was the first time I ever played a console game and thought that 'this is just like playing an arcade game'. Absolutely stunning.

Never got a Dreamcast game, though, because I didn't really like the rest of its lineup that much. >>Anonymous Tue Jan 14 14: File: 21 KB, 465x305, 217.jpg [] [] [] [] [] Almost never, now. Mainly because of the Youtube bullshit where every video with video game footage gets flagged. I normally only play classic games with the goal of demonstrating how I played them, using my old skills, or in other cases, demonstrating my complete lack of familiarity, when playing games blind. But anyway, I played the everloving fuck out of Power Stone 2, Tech Romancer, and Shen Mue. Two of the three now cost a shit-ton of money.

>>Anonymous Tue Jan 14 14: Fairly often. Occasionally get some friends together for some Propeller Arena and Rush 2049. >>Anonymous Tue Jan 14 15: It's probably my 2nd most played console. It's the only console all my roommate will play, for Soul Calibur or Worms Armageddon.

>>Anonymous Tue Jan 14 15: For some reason I can't burn games anymore. Imgburn and Diskjuggler both aren't working, they won't let me start a burn. FUCK >>Anonymous Tue Jan 14 15: Tons of great memories.

I personally love Maken X, because of the ability to possess enemies and the bizarre overall design. Spent the entire summer of 2001 with that game. >>Anonymous Tue Jan 14 16: Hahaha yes I know exactly what you mean man. Mines Of Moria Rulebook Pdf To Jpg. All the consoles I have in my living room, and my roommates and my friends will only ever willingly play two games: Worms on the dreamcast and Duck Hunt.

I wish I knew some other party games that were as fun and easy to convince people to play as Worms, or that I had some light gun games other than Duck Hunt that aren't as impossibly hard as To the Earth (which I also have and which no one will ever play). >>Anonymous Tue Jan 14 17: File: 679 KB, 1080x1449, dreamcast advert 4.jpg [] [] [] [] [] Not much these days unfortunately. Last game I completed was Skies of Arcadia about 6 months ago. >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 11: It's the only TV console I own, and I still have some games I need to finish for it, so I play it whenever I get the chance. >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 11: i played last night with my brother who was in town. Started with our childhood favorite ZOMBIE REVENGE then onto GAUNTLET LEGENDS finished with TRICKSTYLE. Not the best games, but they were all we had as kids on the dreamcast.

>>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 11: Try BattleTanx Global Assault on N64. >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 11: File: 498 KB, 253x190, 974.gif [] [] [] [] [] >mfw I realized there were LOADS of great unlocalized DC games >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 13: i need to buy dreamcast, fuck why am i so poor >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 14: Every year I try to play Dreamcast around the US release anniversary. However last year GTA5 was too distracting. >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 14: It's like $40 for a console with the cords, a controller, and a memory card, and then another $15 for 100 CDs which is at least 80 games accounting for bad burns. It's totally worth it. >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 15: there are loads of leaked beta's the recent release of toejam and earl 3 was nothing short of a miracle this proves that gunvalkarie, castlevania and other dc beta's are out in the wild >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 15: File: 449 KB, 721x644, 202.png [] [] [] [] [] >tfw got a perfect, 1 edition dreamcast off a great retro shop in my city >tfw they never have memory cards so I'll have to order one online or some shit >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 15: File: 163 KB, 500x280, 784. Download Game Prime World Defenders Full Movies there. gif [] [] [] [] [] That's nice?

VMUs are like $5, not a hefty price. >mfw I got a Dreamcast with an RFU adapter (no power cord, but had one laying around), two controllers, a rumble pack, two VMUs, and a 4-in-1 memory card for ~$35 including shipping. None of the batteries still work (including the one in the Dreamcast) and on one controller button the A button isn't as springy as it should be but works just fine. >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 16: Yeah, but i also need a scaler for my LCD, and a stick.

>>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 16: >only plays to show off on YouTube >Why.jpg >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 16: I play mine every now and then. I have the actual copies of games. I attempted Disc Juggler and never understood what I did wrong so I couldn't get my free games.

>>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 16: File: 145 KB, 1024x609, 413.jpg [] [] [] [] [] I replay Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage every time I forget how silly it is. >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 17: Quite a lot. Modern 'light gun' games are shit so the DC and PS2 are the go to consoles when anyone wants to actually shoot instead of thumb a shitty stick on the PS3.

There are also some really good multi player exclusives like Toy Commander and everyone seems to prefer sonic shuffle over Mario Party 9001 or whatever the latest one is. There are some great fighting games. There might be slightly better versions for the PS3 but they're not better enough to justify buying then. Aside from a few good ones that never had a DC version we usually play on the DC. Basically if a few people are over we'll have a DC going on at least one screen. Probably because you overpay for your vidya and don't have enough money left over for that should be a $10 console with controllers and VMUs/memory cards There's a stall in my local flea market that sells power tools and video games. I kid you not.

Controllers are $2, whether it's SFC or XBox. Whatever's inserted in the controller is included. I pick the cleanest looking DC controllers and fill them with the best VMUs and memory cards in the lot. So I have s buttload of memory cards and probably a dozen VMUs. And only 2 VMU caps. >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 17: There are more light guns for DC than light gun games. I got really exited, got a light gun, and have like 4 games to play them with.

>$10 console with controllers and VMUs Yeah right, $20 would be a pretty good deal with that. >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 17: Still trying to fix my fucking burner. It was working perfectly before, no idea what's happened. Imgburn keeps giving me a 'disk not empty' error, and I can't open up the disk to see whats in it (no Autoplay either), so not sure if its a problem with the hardware or the software.

Any suggestions? >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 17: Have you tried multiple.cdis? This happened when I tried to burn a bad copy of a game, the discs were still usable though. >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 17: File: 41 KB, 351x359, 435.jpg [] [] [] [] [] Yup, no good. Diskjuggler won't raise the Start button Imgburn won't raise the start button either, and says Disk Not Empty Nero recognises the CD-R for about a second, then ejects it Wtf.

This happened a while ago with Diskjuggler but then it magically started working again. I literally have no idea what the problem is.

It worked perfectly before >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 17: different anon, test the.cdi and blank CD on a different burner/computer. Might be your drive >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 17: File: 994 KB, 1000x1016, 717.png [] [] [] [] [] >mfw Berserk for PS2 now has a translation patch >mfw patched game freezes in my PS2 >mfw patched game doesn't freeze in emulator, but cutscenes are audio-only with hardware renderer >mfw game looks like shit in software mode >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 17: Okay, I'll try that when my roommate gets back. Anything else I could try in the meantime? I'm a bit reluctant to uninstall the drivers in case I have trouble finding them again >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 18: True there aren't a lot of DC gun games but they're fun and as long as you only paid a couple bucks.oops, read the rest of your post Try Saturn. Also PS2 has a lot of good ones. >Yeah right I have about 10 I picked up at that price. Not sure exactly because I gave a few away to my kids friends.

What's your experience with systems you've actually bought? >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 18: >There are more light guns for DC than light gun games Oh? And where the fuck are you finding them, because if it's that easy I'd like to be let in on this? (seriously though where do you find them without getting hosed) >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 18: I don't mind too much, Confidential Mission and to a lesser degree House of the Dead 2 are some of my absolute favorite Dreamcast games. I don't buy too often as I'm usually 'inbetween jobs' but I look constantly. For the past 2 years or so I've been on and off looking for a Dreamcast and I've seen a bunch for $25+ but bare bones, occasionally a controller was thrown in.

I ended up getting mine a little over 6 months ago: >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 18: I got mine on Ebay for $35 as a Christmas present. I wouldn't have bought one otherwise >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 18: In my experience, drivers are usually easy to come. After you uninstall it, there will be an item in your device manager marked by a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it. Right click it, go to properties, go to the details tab, and select 'Hardware IDs' from the drop-down menu. Copy the stuff starting with VEN_ and DEV_ into a Google search, and you'll probably find what you need. >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 20: Without the cut scenes with Puck it's not really worth playing is it?

>>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 20: I get mine in flea markets for $2-$3. Kids seem to like Death Crimson. It's a shame there weren't more, especially considering how many there were for the Saturn. Between the DC/Saturn/PS2/PS1 sitting by the CRT there's a decent selection. Sucks so many PS gun games are single player. Playing those is almost as bad as the dork who sits in the corner playing Pokemon while everyone else plays Super Smash.

Flea markets. You don't always find what you're looking for but you'll usually find something and if you're not interested keep going back and eventually you will. >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 20: IMO Puck is the weakest part of the game. Slashing dudes is always fun but can get irritating when your sword clangs off of walls. >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 21: I've been meaning to play it but haven't gotten around to it. Burnt it, worked when I tested it, saved it for when I got my lightgun, and then it just stopped working. Too lazy to get a new copy.

Really big shame there wasn't more. Yeah, I know what you mean. I mostly play with my roommate and he's better and HotD2 and I'm better at CF so it's a nice balance. True, true, I shop mostly at pawn shops though or just browse Craigslist to see what's around. Currently 2 original Xbox's console only for $15 total. But I'm like dirt poor so I opted not to grab them. >>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 21: >one online or some shit I have 12 and still need more.

Those things don't hold shit, stock up. The Dreamcast was the last console I bought and I still play it weekly. I've only recently gotten into burning games, so there are a ton of games I'm just now getting to. Gonna try out Zombie Revenge and Dynamite Cop on friday.

>>Anonymous Wed Jan 15 23: File: 69 KB, 433x352, fml.jpg [] [] [] [] [] >had an earlier model Dreamcast capable of playing burnt CDs >traded it off for a Cybiko Extreme Worst fucking thing I ever did in my life. -Ever- I will never forgive myself >>Anonymous Thu Jan 16 00: File: 17 KB, 500x500, 8382457_1.jpg [] [] [] [] [] i can't never seem to get any emus to work and can't work out how to get the games to work. But would love to find my 99 dreamcast again. So much time spent playing jet set radio,PSO online, toy commander and this one rpg where the bosses are parts of this great monster like eyes, tongue and this main chick would turn into a demon or something at night. >>Anonymous Thu Jan 16 00: The game that I want to play the most for the Dreamcast is Ikaruga again. I remember downloading the game iso over a decade ago, and was amazed that it was a 17MB rar file. >>Anonymous Thu Jan 16 00: You're talking about Grandia II.

Good game, really love Millenia as a character. >>Anonymous Thu Jan 16 00: Ikaruga is great. I just wish I sucked less at SHMUPS. It's been ported to a bunch of things, originally Arcade and also on Gamecube, Xbox, PS2, Android, and even Windows >>Anonymous Thu Jan 16 01: I picked up two of those with a few controllers and cables yesterday for the same price. Now I have 6. Wide hasn't seen them yet. The size and weight of those is the wort part of collecting.

Do you use 4M cards and what do you play? I play a lot and only use 3 cards and a VMU.

I guess I mostly play games that don't have much of a story so saves don't take that many blocks. >>Anonymous Thu Jan 16 03: But the Dreamcast is the best 'port' because it isn't a port. The arcade version was Naomi. >>Anonymous Thu Jan 16 09: It's not showing off when you fall down a fucking hole trying to defeat Abobo in the first level of Double Dragon, dumbass.

It's the only way I can be interested in playing games I beat the shit out of twenty years ago. >>Anonymous Thu Jan 16 09: One of the reasons I like the dream cast is that devs made it their bitch early. Frame rates were great for the time and if it survived I think we would have seen a game come out graphically shitting on even shenmue. >>Anonymous Thu Jan 16 19: Hey what is that game where there is like godzilla and you fight them with big mechs and it's made by the people that made EDF I think? >>Anonymous Thu Jan 16 20: Not nearly as much as Saturn. I love the shit out of Dreamcast, but those fucking controllers are the worst. >>Vehicular combat Thu Jan 16 23: I was unable to locate any 4x cards when I went on my Dreamcast spurt, 4 are VMUs and the rest are standard cards from different manufacturers.

I don't play much more than fighting games on it now, but I purchased around 90 games the first year I started collecting. My demand for saves may be a little different than other people, but those cards really don't hold much. I think I was able to fit JGR, Skies of Arcadia, and PSO on one card with nothing else. >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 04: I don't play it as much as I want to. I have 6 systems including my DS, so I try to play them all frequently. Combine that with college and nothing hardly gets played.

>>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 06: Guess that would explain why you've basically filled up 4 times as many cards as me playing mostly the same stuff. >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 06: What use is there for, say, JSR or Skies of Arcadia saves after you've beaten the games? Delete them tos ave space, for god's sake. >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 07: I agree but still, too little storage on them.

Which is funny because at first glance, they appear to be these high tech pieces of hardware that could hold vast amounts of stuff. >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 13: Fun fact, there's a program that gives you more space on your VMU, an extra 44 blocks. There's a bunch of other stuff too.

I've yet to test it out because I still have plentyyyyy of space left across my 6 memory cards. Only used about 2 1/2. >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 13: I boot it up to play NesterDC, Daytona USA 2001, and Space Harrier quite often. If I have a big chunk of free time, I play Sonic Adventure or Jet Grind Radio until my balls get blue. >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 14: My only VMUs are just memory cards. Should I buy proper VMUs? Are they useful?

>>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 14: Ehh. Most of the time there's just a little picture or animation related to the game your playing Soul Calibur actually shows the corresponding attacks when you press them! For some games, like Sonic Shuffle, they're actually useful. They show you the cards you have so only you can see them and not your opponents. Here's a list - look at the in game features.

>>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 14: Forgot to add, aside from that if you have a working battery you can play minigames on them or trade save data but I find that mostly useless. >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 14: I'm still largely in the sway of my Saturn and PS1 libraries, but DC is most likely the platform I'll move on to.

I've been wanting to flesh out my library with some of the more off-kilter games, like the horror games and some RPGs and shmups. I still need to pick up Mars Matrix.

>>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 15: James Small, please leave. >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 15: OH BOY A DC THREAD I quite like the DC. I have just started to sink my teeth in it though. Played Sonic Adventure, Ikaruga, Cannon Spike and Power Stone.

All top tier games. I just wish I would suck less at Treasure's shooter. What I want to play and I. Can't is Jet Grind Radio, one of the games that moved me to buy the console.

Do you know of any proper dump available? Everything I burnt so far doesn't work. Later on I plan to burn Daytona 2001, RE: Code Veronica and as many shoot-em-ups as possible. >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 15: did you try using a boot disc with it?

I have no problems. I'll leave out the burn at 1x comments, etc >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 15: File: 212 KB, 554x720, 745.jpg [] [] [] [] [] Where does everyone get their Dreamcast Iso, I've tried Dreamcast Zone but the ISOs never start a download. I dont wanna buy a pass to use that cloudstorage shit.

>>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 15: there's a torrent of all US dreamcast images in.cdi format that i downloaded. I burn as i play, no issues at all. >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 15: correction: i was thinking of the sega cd project with all images what i downloaded was just 50 'best' games tpb /torrent/7751587 >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 15: Enlighten me, I'm a DC noob. I only use self-booters.

My drive doesn't allow anything below 8X. >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 17: The 44 block thing works. I've tried it. Dream explorer also allows you to back up your save files.

Interesting/cool/fun, absolutely. Some games provide useful information on them and there are actually a few VMU games that are fun. Unfortunately you can only have one game loaded at a time.

The selfboot at emuparadise works. It's what I use.

See above >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 18: I usually use theizozone or emuparadise. Most games don't need a boot disk as self boots work pretty well. My biggest burning problems were with ChuChu Rocket! And Space Channel 5.

Boot disks are a disk (most often the Utopia boot disk) you run and it'll prompt you to switch disks to the burned non-self boot game. I've burned well over 75 games and never needed to use one. You don't need to burn at the lowest speed available, that's a thing of the past because of shitty burners available.

>>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 18: I don't. After about a year it stopped reading any games. Fuck you for reminding me. >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 18: Still have it? Didja try increasing the power of the lazer? >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 19: I believe so, but the plugs are scattered about and God knows what I did with those games. How does one increase the power of the L.A.S.E.R.?

>>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 19: To adjust the light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation follow this guide: retro-hack*blogspot*com/2010/06/sega-dreamcast-laser-calibration-guide*html Basically, you find the laser mechanism and turn the screw connected to it clockwise slowly until it reads games >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 19: I may have to try this. >>Anonymous Fri Jan 17 23: Do it!! I fixed a Mega CD that I bought and played no games at all. Sonic CD was beat just hours after. Silpheed and Terminator soon followed. Do it do it do it >>Anonymous Sat Jan 18 00: File: 78 KB, 640x550, illbleed_backcover.jpg [] [] [] [] [] Continuing off this post I made yesterday. I had the chance to buy Mars Matrix and Illbleed at the local used game shop today.

I picked up Illbleed, thinking to myself that it is probably a slightly rarer find than Mars Matrix, and that I didn't want to spend $90 on one go to the game store. Am I in for a good time, /vr/? >>Anonymous Sat Jan 18 00: File: 42 KB, 552x464, my-nigga.jpg [] [] [] [] [] >Trickstyle >>Anonymous Sat Jan 18 16: >>Anonymous Sat Jan 18 16: I just bought my Dreamcast for $40 the other day, and the VMU for $10 at my local game store. Brought it back because the fan was unnaturally loud as fuck, and the guy said that the Japanese models had the best fans out of models made from other countries, and that it was natural, so I took his word for it. Been playing a fuck ton of Chu Chu Rocket and MVC2, and trying to go through all the hoops and ladders of getting it online (without a BBA) to get onto some PSO2 private servers.

So far, I'm completely satisfied with the $50 I spent. >>Anonymous Sat Jan 18 16: Yeah man, Dreamcasts are loud as shit. Have fun trying to get the internet working, it looks like a HUGE hassle from what I've seen with not a great outcome. But if I could play ChuChu Rocket! That'd be a game changer. >>Anonymous Sat Jan 18 16: He lied.

Not a big deal. Just replace the fan. Either now if the noise bothers you or when it breaks down because it's fucked.

>>Anonymous Sat Jan 18 17: Well, I always thought it was the disk drive bit of it that was loud, but Dreamcasts are not quiet like other disc based consoles of the same generation. >>Anonymous Sat Jan 18 17: My disc drive is a bit loud too, but that's when I'm playing burned CD-Rs.

Does running these games do any where and tear to the system? >>Anonymous Sat Jan 18 17: My roommates Dreamcast is loud either way, but burned games are louder. I only have burned games for my own.

There's very mixed opinions on this, and the laser usually has to do more seeking with burned disks. Most experiences I hear is people use burned discs for years without problems and it's more of an urban legend that it ruins the laser. >>Anonymous Sat Jan 18 17: The whole library? D2 works now? I was copying games back when they first started appearing online when you needed a swap disc, and later on when they became self-booting. I just remember D2 not working, but I dunno if it was ever made to work.

The strangest one was a 2-disc version of Soldier Of Fortune. The original game t was ripped from was a single disc. >>Anonymous Sat Jan 18 17: I've yet to find a game that doesn't work. It's more common to not be able to find copies of a.cdi for a particular game.

I have had many a bad.cdi though, particularly for Space Channel 5 and ChuChu Rocket! The reason it was split into two discs is because.gdi's can fit ~1Gb of data while normal CD-Rs fit ~0.7Gbs so it couldn't all fit. Some people remove videos/down sample videos audio to fit it all on one CD. Haven't tried D2 personally, but I'm confident it would work.

>>Anonymous Sat Jan 18 21: quite often >.
